Some endorsements of my book - "Our Competition is the World."
Youth soccer in America today is a hot topic and a growing revolution. The book is a rare glimpse into coaching and player challenges faced here in the world of U.S. youth soccer. Baker beautifully expresses eye-opening concepts that spring from his experiences around the world. In the world of opinions in youth soccer, clarity of vision is rare. Baker’s vision is a beacon of light that will hopefully attract coaches from coast to coast and will improve the fabric of youth soccer in this generation. - Diane Scavuzzo (Editor in Chief Soccer Nation Magazine) 5 star rating
Stan shows his dedication and passion for this game in "Our Competition is the World". As a former coach of Stan in his university years, it is not a surprise to see Stan being recognized for his coaching and writing a book that has impacted US Soccer. His concentration, learning capacity and discipline on the soccer field in every training session and games is evident that has remained within him to excel as an educator and author of a book with an analysis and comparison of US soccer vs the World. The book shows Stan's capacity to assemble key information as exemplified by the quotes from people who have contributed significantly to this game. Several other features of the book are unique and provide the reader with broad material to understand the complexity of player development. While you read Stan's book you find yourself traveling the world. It is a must read.

As the former State Director of Coaching for the California Youth Soccer Association, (1978-2012). I have not read a book that addresses the specific concerns faced by the United States Youth Soccer Community in the way that Stan Baker does in his book “Our Competition is the World.” His book is both insightful and hugely entertaining. I encourage all coaches and parents involved in youth soccer in the United States to read it. - Karl Dewazien
There is, I’ve found, an admirable hunger among American coaches to constantly educate themselves, and Baker delivers the perfect dish for youth coaches, whether they’re novice or vastly experienced. - Mike Woitalla (Executive Editor of Soccer America Magazine)
This is one of best soccer books that I have read in years. It will give you great insight from many points of view. US soccer needs radical change. This book touches on that and much more. - Cony Konstin (FIFA Futsal Instructor)
The book ‘Our Competition is the World’ by Stan Baker hits the mark and should hit a raw nerve with many people involved with youth soccer in America. The book is a heart felt and passionate attempt at destroying the argument that the American player development system is so unique that we cannot apply the methods used in the rest of the world to our system. This book painstakingly demonstrates how important it is for American youth coaches to open their eyes, broaden their horizons, and learn from the rest of the world. The book has it all. Quotes from many experts and former players and coaches, results of studies, material from domestic and international coaching courses and visits, resources from many of the leading soccer nations’ football associations, practice plans and activities. After reading this book, one cannot but be inspired to take a hard look at our system and look at it from a global perspective. The best thing our youth coaches can do is travel abroad and study how the top countries develop their players. The next best thing, for those who cannot afford to travel, is to read the book 'Our Competition is the World'. - Jacob Daniel (Georgia State Soccer Director of Coaching)
